The Writer in Tuscany

The third novel, The Writer in Tuscany, is set in the idyllic hills of Tuscany and describes the first 100 days in a Tuscan villa and vineyard for American crime reporter, Erik Swanson. Hoping to leave his emotional demons at home in America and find a muse to inspire a book, his tranquil life ends abruptly as a malevolent plot unfolds, targeting regional vintners. Caught in the crossfire are diverse international guests, each seeking solitude for personal reasons.

The novel has already received glowing reviews from editors and literary figures like these:
Former Poet Laureate of Virginia, Ron Smith writes, “Wenzel’s book bristles with intrigue and treachery, love and longing. It’s up to date about climate activists and deniers and offers some satisfyingly villainous East European and Russian criminals. But for me its great pleasure is its portrait of just about all things Italy and Italian.”

Author Helen Montague Foster writes, “Just the book to transport adventure fans to Italy. Wenzel blends wine, Italian cuisine and culture with romance, mafia violence and mystery in an action-adventure with one plot twist after another.

Dreams of Troy

Armed with unique malware, two sophisticated female terrorists try to take down the medical infrastructures of Spain, France and Israel in an effort to negotiate the independence of the Basques, Corsicans and Palestinians. Their plot begins with a bombing at the Barcelona rail station, a deliberate distraction to mislead authorities. The simultaneous hospital admission of many uninjured by-standers creates an additional layer of mystery for senior MI-5 agent Elizabeth Foster. Once again, she calls on leading Stanford epidemiologist Jake Evans, and his Oxford colleague, Christopher Rose, microbiologist and IT expert, to help her decipher whether the two seemingly unrelated events are in fact connected. As Spanish government officials, anti-terror experts, and the trio of heroes race to solve the mystery, pressure mounts with the pending arrival in Spain of international heads of state for a Middle East policy summit. Dreams of Troy delves into loyalty, revenge and passion that flares in the heat of danger.

Labyrinth of Terror

Terror reigns when a string of post-op infections erupts in the sanitized halls of King s College Hospital in London. A trio of experts – Microbiology Professor Chris Rose, Jake Evans, an American infectious disease specialist, and Elizabeth Foster, a senior agent with M15 – soon realize that the offending organism is a weapon in a worldwide terrorist plot. The terrorists turn their to focus on an upcoming medical-legal conference, hoping to infect hundreds and subsequently ravage the global community, as well as the very doctors who might be able to find a cure. Author and physician Richard Wenzel takes us on a riveting, winding journey through Europe and the Middle East, unravels the science of infections, and opens a revealing window on the complex politics of medicine.
